A team of talented palettes has been gathered to test-taste the dishes whipped up at this year’s Shrimp &Grits: Wild Georgia Shrimp Festival. Several local and regional guest judges will come to the tasting tables to dig in fork-first and name the winner of this year’s best dish.
For the Saturday Amateur Chef Competition, guest judges will be Mike Falduti, chef at the Jekyll Island Seafood Company; Warren Caterson, author of the “Table for Two” cookbook; and Jim Jinkins, a cartoonist and creator of the “Doug” TV series.
For the Sunday Professional Chef Competition, guests judges will be Vanessa Rocchio, a Southern Living blogger and author of the “Southern Living: What’s For Dinner” cookbook; Harlan Hambright, a two-time winner of the festival’s amateur competition; and Mike Falduti, chef at the Jekyll Island Seafood Company.
Of course, on both Saturday and Sunday, you can try your hand at being in the judge’s seat, by signing up for the Consumer’s Choice Panel. Joining the Consumers’ Choice Panel is $25 per person, per day. Guests can register on the festival website or at the Guest Information Tent on Pier Road at the festival. Spaces are limited and offered on a first come, first served basis.
